The Key to playing shutdown defense in Madden NFL 10 is stopping the run. Stopping the run is only half the battle. Stopping your opponents passing game is the other battle I talked about. To do both you need to have the right personnel around you. You need to have a scheme that allows you to create pressure on the quarterback.

Playing run defense isn’t easy you need to know your assignment. First things first learn your defensive playbook. Gap control is important if you want to stop the run. The A gap is between the center and guards. The B gap is between guards and tackles. Now the next gap is the C gap. Its outside of the tackles. Last gap is the D gap this gap is outside the tight end.

Staying in your gaps will help stop the run. Getting Penetration in the run game will shutdown your opponents running game. Look for players who have a high block shed on defense. Players with a high block shed will get more penetration in the run game. Personnel plays a big role in playing defense. Personnel is covered in another article you can check out. So how do you stop your opponents offense from scoring points.

Third downs in Madden NFL 10 is the money down. Stopping your opponent on third down helps stop opposing offenses from scoring touchdowns. It allows your defense to rest while your offense is on the field.

You can do a number of things like mixing up your coverages. The key is to create pressure up the middle on your opponents quarterback. Blitzing through the A and B gaps will create pressure up the gut in the quarterbacks face. For example 4-3 free fire is a play used to create pressure on your opponent offense.

There is no safety help also known as 0 coverage your corner backs are in man to man coverage. The left outside linebacker is man coverage covering the running back. the strong safety is in man coverage covering the tight end.
