Madden Nfl | Running In Madden 10

September 29, 2009 – 1:28 pm

In non-video game football, the typical methodology is run the ball. In Madden, its not quite as important, but being able to run the football will make sure the D cant lock in on your throwing strategy. Taking advantage of when the D is in adjustments that don’t favor defending the run is big to keeping the defense off kilter and being a great offensive attack. There are a couple strategies to guarantee your running success in Madden NFL 10.

Know your matchups. Be cognizant which of your offensive linemen are above average and not, and know what defensive players are effective and not. This should give you an idea where you should be running the rock, and where you should not. This doesn’t mean run ALL the time to these areas, as the D will be knowledgeable, but it should give you a starting point for where you run theories should be.

Count the men in the box. Notice any off-kilter changes you D makes. If they split out a 3rd linebacker directly over the wide receiver, they definitely have a deficiency where that linebacker left. If their safeties are too out there and you have a solid line and a FB, you should be able to move the ball well. On the line, if they’re stuffing the line of scrimmage with their safeties, be worried and play action and throw to get them out of this set.

Don’t pick draws/counters. These plays historically do not work in Madden and still do not. They each will run every so often, but their inconsistency is not something you want to rely on in a heated game of Madden. Stick the more standard move-ahead runs, HB dives, and Off-Tackles that will often give you massive gains.

Have a good running back! Using a great running back like Ryan Grant or Darren Sproles can make up for bad choices and help you get out of tackles where zero was available. Use your hit stick every time to miss tackles, but be cognizant, as trying to do this too frequently will leave you at the whim fumbles.
